Milestones - Our Rites of Passage

Milestones - Our Rites of Passage

Milestones are the rites of passage that every parent looks forward to watching their child experience.  With my own son I enjoyed every stage.  And when I thought that I couldn’t be more blessed watching my son learn a new skill or experience something for the first time, the sun would rise on a new day and along with it a slew of new experiences and joys.  A truth that I am drawn to is in realizing that we, as parents, all share that same excitement and joy.  It doesn’t matter what part of the world you live in, you feel joy at seeing your child grow and thrive just as much as I do.

Just today as I was thinking about milestones, I received a post in my feed from a friend on social media.  The topic of the post was a milestone called Einschulung in Germany.  This milestone is the celebration of a child entering 1st grade.  There is a wonderful ceremony that the entire community partakes in and beautiful memories are made that last a lifetime.  Children are inspired to embrace and cherish the gift of learning. What a wonderful example of how a milestone can impact lives!

The laying of foundations to help prepare our children to experience milestones in their lives is something that takes action on our part as parents.  It takes trust, wisdom and courage.  Trust is needed to understand that before our child ever spent a moment in our hands, they rested in the hands of the Creator. It is what allows us to let go of their tiny hands as they attempt to take their first steps.  Wisdom is needed to understand that each child needs a nurturing space in which to experience things for themselves in order to develop a proper sense of self, to gain confidence in their abilities, and to grow as individuals.  It is knowing that God specifically chose us to be the parent of our child because we possess the qualities necessary to help them grow into the person God destined them to be.  It is what pushes us to place our child in music lessons, a writing class, science club or a sports program because we see the spark of talent.  Courage is needed to push that “baby bird” out of our nest when the time has come for them to fly.  It is knowing that our children’s steps have been ordained by God, and the good work He has begun in them, He will bring to fruition.  It is what gives us the strength to kiss our child goodbye as we drop them off at college.

Milestones. They are the proof that God’s hand has always, is always and will always be on our child’s life.  Awesomely Distinguished is a book that provides parents with a roadmap to begin the journey of milestones in their child’s life.  Visit our page today and discover how HaKavana can be a part of your wonderful adventure called life. www.hakavana.com.
